Glas ist einfach und schwer zu malen. Man muss nur genau schauen.
Man malt die Verzerrung, die der Blick durch das Glas erfährt. Also nur Verzerrungen des Hintergrundes/Glasinhaltes und Glanzlichter.
Die Schwierigkeit besteht darin, dumm zu sehen. Also nicht zu malen, was man denkt was da zu sehen sei, sondern das, was man tatsächlich sieht. Reine Wahrnehmung direkt in die malende Hand, statt der Ergebnisse des reflektierens, was da wohl zu sehen sein müsste. So zu sehen ist nicht leicht, zen-artig irgendwie, hilft aber, Routine zu vermeiden. Was in diesem Fall ja nur gut ist.

Glass is easy and difficult to paint. You only have to observe precisely.
You paint the deformation, your glance gets by going through that glass. So, deformations of the background/contents of the glass and the highlights.
The difficulty lies in observing stupidly. Not to paint what you think should be there but what you actually see. Pure perception directly into the painting hand instead of the result of the reflections on what would be/should be visible there. To see that way is not easy, a kind of zen-thing, but it helps to avoid routine. Which in this case is good.
