Eine Karotte ist eine Karotte. Das Bild einer Karotte ist keine Karotte. Das Bild einer Karotte ist das Bild einer Karotte, die träumt, sie wäre ein gigantisches Weltraumschlachtschiff. Und der Weltraum ist diesmal web-2.0-Mintgrün. Nur der diffuse Schatten stört den Traum.

Niemals mit dem Hauptmotiv anfangen. Genauer: Mit dem, was im Vordergrund ist. Wenn man das tut, muss man nämlich den Hintergrund vorsichtig um das schön gemalte Vordergrundmotiv herummalen. Das sieht immer krampfig aus. Selbst wenn man in Schichten malt (ach, ich mach das später richtig...): Man sieht es. Oft nur als diffus unangenehmen Eindruck, aber man kriegt es mit.

Never start with the main actor in your painting. Or more precise: with what is in the foreground. If you do so, you always have to paint the background carefully around the already well painted motive in the foreground. Which gives a rather unelegant and stressed, inhibited impression. Avoid that. Paint the background first. Even if you paint in layers and it seems irrelevant to you (ah, I´ll fix that later...): It is visible. Not directly, no one will say "Oh, look mum, there, the background, it´s painted around the motive!!". But everyone will subconciously feel the difficulty it was, painting it that way.
