Er war echt schlapp nach einem harten Tag im Wasser. Aber er war so blau, daß das Herumhängen auch nicht half. Und das er ein Handtuch war, war auch irgendwie kein Vorteil.

Drei Farben wurden hier benutzt (wieder mal). Titan Weiß, böhmische grüne Erde und Ultramarin Blau. Der Hintergrund ist mit Weiß und ganz wenig grüner Erde gemalt. Die Wäscheleine ist grüne Erde und das Handtuch ist ultramarin.
Was ich hier betonen möchte, ist die Tatsache, das das Handtuch in einer art Aquarellmalerei gemalt ist. Das heißt, daß die helleren Stellen ausgelassen sind, so das der helle Hintergrund sichtbar bleibt.
Man benutze dies wo immer es geht. Es ist immer eine elegante Methode, die Dinge lebendig zu machen. Die Oberfläche muß trocken sein, um unangenehme Überraschungen wie Farbe, die wieder vom Bild herunter kommt , während man darauf malt, zu vermeiden. Man beginne mit den dunkelsten Stellen und benutze dünnere Farbe für die helleren Stellen. Bei Unsicherheit übe man auf Papier! Weil Korrekturen fast unmöglich sind.

Three colours are used here (again). Titaniumwhite, bohemian green earth (I hope my translation is correct, I couldn´t find in my dictionary) and ultramarine blue. The background is white with very little green earth (this really sounds weird. Does anybody know about Grüne Erde in english?). The clothesline is green earth and the towel is ultramarine.
What I´d like to point out here, is the fact, that the towell is painted in a watercolour kind of way. Meaning, that the lighter parts are left out, so the the light background stays visible.
Use this where ever possible. It is always an elegant way to make things come alive. The surface has to be dry to prevent unpleasant surprises like colour coming of the picture again while painting on them. Start with the darkest parts and use thiner paint for the lighter areas. Practise on some paper, if you are insecure! Because corrections are almost impossible.
